The Vancouver Canucks were down a key forward against the Minnesota Wild on Saturday.
Star centre Elias Pettersson didn't play on Hockey Night in Canada due to an upper-body injury.
After the game — a Canucks 4-2 win — head coach Adam Foote told reporters that they became aware of the injury in the morning.
The 27-year-old later tested the ailment during warm-ups and was ultimately unable to play.
Foote added that Pettersson will go for an MRI on Sunday.
Pettersson had been set to play in his 500th NHL game — all with the Canucks. He has 193 goals and 286 assists for his career, including eight goals and 14 assists in 28 games this season.
